While Feinstein promises to be a gracious co-star, one never knows what could go on backstage when two megawatt talents of the theatre must share the stage. Just to be safe, producers of All About Me will be holding "auditions" for an honorary understudy for Dame Edna on March 18 at the Henry Miller's Theatre.
Though the understudy will probably never get to warble the word "possums" on stage, they will be listed in the program. Judges for the event will include New York Post theatre columnist Michael Riedel, Village Voice writer Michael Musto and NY1's Frank DiLella. More guest judges are expected to join.
Those with the guts to fill Dame Edna's shoes are asked to come dressed in appropriate Dame Edna garb and prepare a two-minute audition (monologue, performance piece or modern dance) explaining why they are the best candidate, in addition to 16 bars of a song. Selections from the Great Australian Songbook, "A pamphlet, really," according to Dame Edna, will earn bonus points.
Interested possums should e-mail their name, resume and a brief account of why they should be selected to: [email protected]. Auditionees must be willing to have their audition filmed for publicity use.
