News   Unless More Interest Is Aroused, Off-Bway's The Joys of Sex Will Close June 13

The Joys of Sex: A Naughty New Musical, the Off-Broadway musical about four characters who sing about threesomes, one-night stands, cybersex and orgasms, will close at the Variety Arts Theatre on June 13 unless business picks up.

A provisional closing notice is up. If the box office gets some encouragement from audiences, the show will continue into the summer.

Jeremy Dobrish (The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)) directs the work featuring Ron Bohmer (The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Thing About Men) and Jenelle Lynn Randall (They Wrote That?) with original Fringe cast members David Josefsberg (Les Misérables, Grease!) and Stephanie Kurtzuba (The Boy From Oz).

The Joys of Sex: A Naughty New Musical was born at the 2002 Fringe to Off-Broadway and will now have national and international productions.

New York producers Ben Sprecher, William P. Miller, Kenneth D. Greenblatt and Benjamin C. Singer, have fielded interest from across the globe and productions are slated for Florida (September 2004), Toronto (fall 2004) and Chicago. Negotiations are underway for stagings in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia as well as translated version for Mexico City.

The Joys of Sex performs Off-Broadway at the Variety Arts Theatre, 110 Third Avenue (at 14th Street).
