Unsuitable Girls, a romantic comedy about the East End Asian community, previews at the Lyric Hammersmith beginning April 30, with an official opening on May 2.
Chumpa Chamelli is a feisty British Asian twenty-something with a fertile imagination, ambition, a promising career and a problem. Her wedding is booked, relatives are arriving from India, presents are piling up — only one thing is missing . . . a groom!
Chumpa tries to keep her feet on the ground as she desperately searches for a husband to appease her mother, who she mistakenly believes is seriously ill. From Bollywood film stars to the boy next door, Chumpa searches for the man of her dreams in a drama full of romance, dancing, laughter and tears.
Written by journalist Dolly Dhingra and designed by BBC Award-winning designer Keith Khan, director Kully Thiarai leads a cast that includes some of the best in new British Asian talent.
