Continuing its 20-year tradition of multi-cultural theatre, the Pan Asian Repertory Company will present two diverse productions as it begins its 1996-97 season.

Italian-American playwright Rosanna Staffa makes her New York City debut with The Innocence of Ghosts, a poetic drama set in contemporary China. Staffa tells the story of a Caucasian woman drawn to an acupuncture clinic by ancient spirits.

This production will be followed by Slant, an iconoclastic trio of Asian-American performance artists. The sale of a fake Gucci bag, and the resulting police line-up, provide the context for a dramatic exploration of stereotypes and assimilation.

Artistic Director Tisa Chang founded Pan Asian Rep in 1977 as a celebration of Asian-American theatre craft. Their productions have been honored with Obie and Theatre World awards.
