Colfer's reps did not immediately respond to Playbill.com's request for comment, and the Tweet was not immediately removed.
Fox also released the following statement denying news of Colfer's departure: "We've been alerted that Chris Colfer's Twitter account has been hacked. Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season."
Colfer's reps tater told THR that the actor was on a mid-Atlantic flight without access to Wifi and was unable to remove the false tweet.
Colfer is set to appear on NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" July 8.
The next season of "Glee" is set to begin airing in 2015.
In addition to his acting credits, Colfer wrote the screenplay for the 2012 indie film "Struck By Lightning," which he also produced and starred in, and the "Land of Stories" children's book series.
