Following their run on Comedy Central, the well-known improv and sketch comedy group, the Upright Citizens Brigade, began concentrating on their new sketch show That's Fucked Up, which has been playing at their Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in downtown Manhattan since Oct. 4.
The show, which added two dates, will end Dec. 27 because the troupe will bring their other improv show A.S.S.S.S.C.A.T. to Hollywood's Improv Olympic Jan. 10-Feb. 1. The former production may be remounted when the troupe returns in February spokesperson Michael O’Brien told Playbill On-Line (Dec. 26).
In That's Fucked Up, the UCB, made up of Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh delve into the future of the reality-based television genre.
The troupe began in Chicago in 1991, where they wrote and performed their own material as members of the Improv Olympic Theatre. In 1996, they brought their sketch show Bucket of Truth to New York, along with their improv show A.S.S.S.S.C.A.T. (which they still perform.) By 1998, the UCB had their own television show on the cable network Comedy Central. Then, in 1999, when the Harmony Theatre (a former adult entertainment venue) was shut down, the UCB turned the space into their new 74-seat home. The UCB Theater offers other sketch/ improv groups space to fill the house seven nights a week. They also pass on their improv style through classes at the theatre.
