Zoetrope: All-Story, the Francis Ford Coppola-founded magazine, states it "anticipates some of its stories becoming memorable films." Well, some of the stories from their Winter, 2000 "The One-Act Play Issue" will be entertaining audiences of a different type as Urban Empire presents Worldly Acts at the Go-Go Room at Show World June 12-29.

Worldly Acts compiles five one-act plays from the aforementioned issue into one evening of theatre. The works included are Sean Michael Welch's Boise, Idaho, Garth Wingfield's Daniel on a Thursday, Don DeLillo's The Mystery at the Middle of Ordinary Life, Amanda Beesley's The Stolen Child and Who's On Top by Elizabeth Dewberry.

Welch's Boise, Idaho is directed by Lizzie Gotlieb and features Jennifer Dundis, Peter Jacobson, Glen Kessler and Danny Baker. Anna Catherine Rutledge directs Daniel co-stars Jack Merrill and Matt Del Negro. DeLillo's Ordinary Life stars Ali Marsh opposite Joe LoTruglio under the direction of Anastasia Traina. Mike Weaver and Linda Powell are featured in Beesley's Stolen Child as directed by Laramie Dennis. And Shira-Lee Shalit helms Dewberry 's Who's on Top with Daniella Rich and Matt Rauch.

Urban Empire was incorporated in 1998 by Jack Merrill, former artistic director of the Naked Angels. Other productions the group has presented include Urban Acts and Two by Belber. Their collaborators, Zoetrope: All-Story, was launched in 1997 and won this year's National Magazine Award for best fiction over The New Yorker, Esquire and GQ.
