News U.S. Premiere of Witnessed By the World, New Play about JFK's Assassination, Opens Nov. 20 at 59E59 The U.S. premiere of Witnessed By the World, Ronnie Cohen and Jane Beale's new play, officially opens Nov. 20 at 59E59 Theaters following preview performances that began Nov. 8.

Directed by Karen Carpenter, the production continues through Dec. 15 featuring Charlotte Maier (God of Carnage), Bob Ari (Die Mommy Die!), Lois Markle (Hedda Gabler), Max Gordon Moore (Man and Superman) and Joe Tapper (Hypochondriac). Here's how the production is billed: "Joan Ross has been haunted by the assassination of JFK since childhood. Now an acclaimed reporter and seasoned researcher, she has been re-reading the Warren Commission Report, reviewing old television footage and generally immersing herself in the 'facts' from that period. And most of it is pure bunk. Ira Basil is a well-regarded Hollywood screenwriter known mainly for light comedies — his first foray into drama went so poorly he's afraid to pick up a pen. So when Joan enters his life to help him with his next project, he just knows his career will get back on track. Together they begin to work on a script that's loosely based on a 'true life' mystery: Jack Ruby as a mafia wanna-be conned into doing a big job for the mob. But art begins to resemble life when the greatest unsolved mystery of the 20th Century comes to a shocking conclusion."

The design team includes Libby Stadstad (scenic design), Cory Pattak (lighting design), Martin T. Lopez (costume design), Lindsay Jones (sound design) and Matthew Haber (projection design). The production stage manager is Jana Llynn.
