PlayBlog Ute Lemper Talks Joseph Bukowski and German Cabaret (Video) Olivier Award winner and acclaimed cabaret singer Ute Lemper recently appeared on the PBS news show "Need to Know." She discussed her newest cabaret show, celebrating the work of American poet Charles Bukowski, which she performs at Joe's Pub Aug. 19-22.

Lemper also discussed the history of German cabaret, particularly in the Weimar Republic era, and her commitment to keeping the songs of that era alive and relevant in her performances.

Lemper received an Olivier Award for playing Velma Kelly in the original London production of the Chicago revival, a role she later played in the current Broadway production. Although best known for her cabaret work, she has also appeared on stage in Peter Pan, Cabaret and Blue Angel.
