PlayBlog Vanessa Williams Talks Sondheim and "Betty" on "Good Morning America" (Video) Sondheim on Sondheim star Vanessa Williams visited “Good Morning America” April 19 to chat about working on the revue of composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim’s songs and life story.

Williams was interviewed a few days before Sondheim on Sondheim’s official opening at Studio 54 April 22, and just after her acclaimed series “Ugly Betty” ended its four-year run April 14. She discusses her love for live performance, getting notes from Sondheim himself, and what it was like shooting “Betty”’s final season. She also mentions the new song Sondheim has written for Sondheim — “God,” a tongue-in-cheek reference to his stature in the theatre community.

Williams received a Tony Award nomination for the 2002 revival of Sondheim’s Into the Woods, and holds three Emmy nominations for “Ugly Betty.” She has also appeared on Broadway in Kiss of the Spider Woman; other stage credits include the Encores! concert version of St. Louis Woman and the Kennedy Center concert version of Carmen Jones.

Sondheim on Sondheim is currently in previews at Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street).
