News Varla Jean Merman Will Be a Loose Chanteuse at Ars Nova Varla Jean Merman, the drag persona of actor Jeffery Roberson, will bring The Loose Chanteuse to Ars Nova Feb. 17-27.

Tom Judson, a.k.a. "Gus Mattox," will accompany Merman on piano for the show, Merman's first in New York in three years.

Merman recently received the Boston Critics' Elliot Norton Award for playing Christine Daae in Phantom of the OPRAH. She will appear opposite Leslie Jordan in Willard Beckham's musical Lucky Guy at the Little Shubert this spring. Recent television credits include ABC's "Ugly Betty," Logo's "One Night Stand-Up" and Season 5 of "Project Runway."

Roberson has appeared in the Broadway production of Chicago, at New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre in The Mystery of Irma Vep, on television in "All My Children" and in the film "Girls Will Be Girls."

Performance times are Thursday-Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 7 PM.
