The Via Funchal Theatre a U$25 million project with capacity for 3,200 people will be inaugurated on August 1st, 1998 in Sao Paulo.

According to Charles Nogueira, the producer of the project, the Via Funchal has different characteristics from other theatres in Sao Paulo. It will be the largest and most modern theatre in Brazil. The acoustics of the theatre with microphones placed at strategical points on the stage, is totally new in Brazil. The theatre will have the capacity to seat 3200 people and for rock shows and concerts will safely take 6000 people after tables and chairs have been removed.

Located at Vila Olimpia in the South of the city of Sao Paulo, the Via Funchal Theatre will present an international attraction on it´s opening night. "We have great international names scheduled for August," says producer Charles Miller." In September we´ll present some famous musicals that have already run on Broadway . . ." explains the producer.

Businesswoman Vera Maluf and her sons Cassio and Jorge Maluf, the Via Funchal owners, think that "entertainment" is the most increasing and profitable business in the world at the moment.

Architects Sergio Bernardes and Paulo Jacobsen affirm that the size of the theatre is not the only aspect that will impress the public, but it´s sophisticated techniques, the comfort and the safety will certainly include the city of Sao Paulo on the route of the best shows of the world. --By Nertutila Achao
