Classic Arts News Vienna's Staatsoper and Volksoper Operas Will Merge Their Ballet Companies Two Vienna opera companies, the famed Staatsoper and the smaller Volksoper, will combine their in-house ballet companies, Agence France-Press reports.
The resulting ballet company will have a combined staff of 107, and will be led by Gyula Harangozo, a former Staatsoper dancer who currently runs the Hungarian National Ballet.

Harangozo, 48, will replace the heads of the two dance companies, Renao Zanella at the Staatsoper and Giorgio Madia at the Volksoper.

Staatsoper director Ioan Holender told Agence France-Press that the merger would cut costs and "improve the artistic quality" of the troupes. Hanrangozo will begin his post September 1.
