Minneapolis’ Mixed Blood Theatre is set to stage the regional premiere of Qui Nguyen’s Vietgone in the spring, with direction by Mark Valdez. Inspired by the playwright’s life, the story is billed as a “modern twist” on the all-American love story—about two refugees from the Vietnam War who are newly settled in a relocation camp in Middle America.

Vietgone will play April 10-30, 2017, at the Mixed Blood Theatre.

The play received positive reviews Off-Broadway, where it recently wrapped up its extended premiere engagement with The Manhattan Theatre Club. The New York premiere of Vietgone was directed by May Adrales and officially opened October 25.

“Borrowing elements from the world of up-to-the-minute popular culture to recreate the playwright’s own parents’ meeting, Vietgone ranges from hilarity to heart-wrenching drama,” stated earlier MTC press notes.
