Diary of a Madman, an adaptation of the story by 19th Century Russian writer Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, opens Sept. 4 at The Gavea House - Rio de Janeiro. Marcus Alvisi directs.

The production stars well-known Brazilian actor Diogo Vilela as Alexenty Ivanovich, a civil servant and a solitary young man, who falls in love with his boss´s daughter. Their disturbing romance propels him into a world of madness. He has to spend his remaining days in a mental hospital.

This work marks the third monologue of Diogo Vilela´s carreer and his fourth work with the director Marcus Alvisi.

"I have always wanted to play a character that affected the public strongly, that left the audience excited and impressed... this is the great opportunity!" says Vilela, currently celebrating his 40th birthday.
