Violinist Nicola Benedetti to Sell Ring Tones

Classic Arts News   Violinist Nicola Benedetti to Sell Ring Tones
Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti will make samples from her new album available as mobile-phone ring tones, the Scotsman reports.

The ring tones, which include Saint-SaêŠns' Havanaise, Massenet's Meditation, and Brahms's Contemplation, will be available in polyphonic format for Ô£2-Ô£3.50 each.

Her record label hopes that the ring tones by the 17-year-old violinist, named the BBC's young musician of the year in 2004, will bring classical music to a new and younger audience.

Julian de Ste. Croix, acting chief executive of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, said, "Nicola Benedetti is just the right person to help take classical music to a younger audience, and the fact that she is launching a range of ring tones can only be beneficial."

Benedetti signed a Ô£1 million record deal with Deutsche Grammophon in January.
