Virginia Opera's 2006-07 season will include the company premiere of Carlisle Floyd's Susannah, the company announced.

The company will also perform Bizet's Carmen with soprano Cristina Nassif in the title role. Nassif sang Violetta in the company's La traviata this season.

"Cristina's leading role debut as Violetta created a kind of star-is-born sensation that jolted our audiences and critics to attention," artistic director Peter Mark said. "

Also on the schedule are Handel's Agrippina—which will be performed in Virginia for the first time—and the double bill of Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana and Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci.

The company has not yet released performance dates or additional casting.
