Vivica Genaux to Appear in Upcoming Film

Classic Arts News   Vivica Genaux to Appear in Upcoming Film

Mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux will make a cameo appearance in the movie Fracture, due out this fall, according to her representative.

Directed by Gregory Hoblit, Fracture is a thriller starring Anthony Hopkins as a man who shoots his wife; Ryan Gosling is his lawyer. The cast also includes Billy Burke, Rosamund Pike, and David Strathairn.

In the film, the characters played by Gosling and Pike attend a recital by Genaux; she is shown singing the aria "Ombra fedele anch'io" from Riccardo Broschi's 1730 opera Idaspe. The scene, filmed at Walt Disney Hall last week, will mark Genaux's feature-film debut.

Broschi was the brother of the famed castrato Farinelli (born Carlo Broschi); another aria from Idaspe was on Genaux's CD Arias for Farinelli.
