News VT's Dorset Theatre Festival Opens Kaufman's Dulcy July 19 The Dorset Theatre Festival kicks off its latest series, The Kaufman Collection, with George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly's Dulcy July 19-Aug 5.

The Dorset Theatre Festival, located in Dorset, VT, will produce one of Kaufman's works each summer for the duration of artistic director Carl Forsman's tenure with the festival.

Dulcy marks the premiere production for The Kaufman Collection. According to press notes, "the comedy follows the exploits of Dulcinea Smith during one weekend, as she attempts to help her husband Gordon save his fake-pearl business. Unfortunately for Gordon, Dulcy has a knack for getting into trouble, like an early prototype of 'I Love Lucy.'"

Best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning collaborations on Of Thee I Sing (written with Morrie Ryskind) and You Can't Take It With You (written with Moss Hart), Kaufman's comedies and musicals appeared on Broadway for more than 20 consecutive years, from the 1920s to the '40s.

The cast for Dulcy includes Mark Alhadeff, Cheryl Lynn Bowers, Phillip Clark, Teddy Coluca, Kelly Deadmon, Ben Hollandsworth, Alexis Hyatt, D.H. Johnson, Saxon Palmer, Thomas Jay Ryan and Brit Whittle. Carl Forsman directs.

The third production of the Festival's summer season is designed by Nathan Heverin (set), Theresa Squire (costumes), Josh Bradford (lights) and Daniel Baker (sound). The Dorset Playhouse is located at 104 Cheney Road, Dorset, VT. Tickets are available by calling (802) 867-5777.
