Those creating musicals as part of The Metropolitan Opera/Lincoln Center Theater Opera/Theater Commissions Program follow:

  • Rufus Wainwright, whose original opera is titled Prima Donna. A January 2009 workshop is expected.
  • Michael John LaChiusa.
  • Composer Jake Heggie is collaborating on a project with playwright Richard Greenberg.
  • A new musical created by Michael Torke (composer), Michael Korie (librettist) and Des McAnuff (writer/director), is currently in the works.
  • Korie is also involved in another project with composer-lyricist Ricky Ian Gordon.
  • Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner, who collaborated on the acclaimed musical Caroline, or Change, are at work on an original story.
  • Composer Nico Muhly will join librettist Craig Lucas on a musical project.
  • Scott Wheeler, a composer, will help playwright Romulus Linney musicalize one of Linney's plays. Among those still exploring ideas are Rachel Portman and playwright Nicholas Wright and composers Adam Guettel and Wynton Marsalis.
