News Walmartopia Cast to Head into the Recording Studio Oct. 31; CD Due in December The cast of the new Off-Broadway musical Walmartopia, the irreverent political satire at the Minetta Lane Theatre, will head into the recording studio Oct. 31.

The company (and band) will record the musical's original cast recording, which is being produced by the show's musical director, August Eriksmoen. The CD is expected to arrive in stores Dec. 1.

Walmartopia, penned by Catherine Capellaro (book) and Andrew Rohn (music and lyrics), "tells the hilarious and timely tale of Vicki Latrell, a single mom and Wal-Mart employee who speaks out against her company's working conditions and finds herself and her young daughter jettisoned to 2037, into a future where Wal-Mart dominates the entire world," according to production notes.

Cheryl Freeman (The Civil War) and Nikki M. James (All Shook Up) play the mother and daughter who figure into the satirical musical. Freeman and James are joined by Sarah Bolt, Bradley Dean (Company), Stephen DeRosa (Into the Woods, Hairspray), John Jellison (All Shook Up), DeMond B. Nason, Andrew Polk, Pearl Sun (How the Grinch Stole Christmas!), Scotty Watson and Helene Yorke.

Walmartopia features direction by Daniel Goldstein with choreography by Wendy Seyb. The creative team includes David Korins (sets), Miranda Hoffman (costumes) and Ben Stanton (lights); the musical is produced by WMtopia, LLC.

Walmartopia plays the following performance schedule: Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 7 PM, with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM.
