Dan Olmstead plays bitter composer Salieri opposite Rob McClure's rambunctious Mozart in Walnut Street Theatre's new production of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus, opening Jan. 26 following previews from Jan. 18. Performances continue in Philadelphia to March 6.

The company of 23 is directed by Malcolm Black. WST is producing Shaffer's latest revision of the London and Broadway hit that was also an Academy Award-winning film. The play, about an imagined rivalry and murder plot involving rival composers Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, won the 1981 Tony Award for Best Play and the 1985 Oscar for Best Picture. Shaffer, who also penned the screen version, revised his play for a 1998 revival run on Broadway.

Olmstead is a Temple MFA graduate and has been see at the Walnut in Fallen Angels, A Streetcar Named Desire, Enchanted April, Of Mice and Men and more. McClure returns to the Walnut following his performance as Charlie Chaplin at the La Jolla Playhouse in the new musical, Limelight. McClure has been seen on Broadway in Avenue Q and I'm Not Rappaport and at the Walnut in The Producers and Oliver!

Mozart's wife Costanza is played by Ellie Mooney, last seen at the Walnut in Forbidden Broadway's Greatest Hits and Beauty and the Beast.

The cast also includes Bev Appleton, Ian D. Clark, Edward Furs, Melissa Joy Hart, Anthonyt Lawton, Louis Lippa, John Morrison, Emily Rast, Peter Schmitz, Greg Wood, John Zak, Johnny Smith, plus Hilary Kale Crist, Langston Darby, Catherine Logan, Benjamin Lovell, Matt Mancuso, Michelle Pauls, Caroline Rhoads and Sarah Schol.

The creative team includes scenic and lighting designer Paul Wonsek; costume designer Colleen Grady; and sound designer Christopher Colucci.
