The production of the Lerner and Loewe classic My Fair Lady, from Opera Australia, opened at the Sydney Opera House August 30 and plays through November 5. Original Eliza Doolitte, Julie Andrews, directs this recreation of the original Broadway show. It features sets and costumes by Oliver Smith and Cecil Beaton.
Anna O’Byrne stars as Eliza, with Alex Jennings as Henry Higgins. The cast also includes Robyn Nevin, Reg Livermore and Tony Llewellyn-Jones.
Professor Henry Higgings, phoneticist, bets that he can train any woman to pass as a well-bred socialite. The Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, becomes his project in this take on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion.
The clip features favorites like “Get Me to the Church On Time,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “The Rain in Spain,” peppered with interview commentary by director Andrews.
