Members of the Broadway community reunited in recent weeks to let loose in a new video for the dance remix of Broadway for Orlando’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”
Following the June shooting massacre at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, dozens of Broadway stars gathered to record a benefit single of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love” in New York City.
The song is executive produced by Seth Rudetsky, James Wesley and Van Dean of Broadway Records. It was produced in conjunction with Playbill at Avatar Studios.
Soon after the single was released, four top DJs created 10 remixes of the song that inspired a movement.
Among the stars heard on the single are Sara Bareilles, Carole King, Nathan Lane, Audra McDonald, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bernadette Peters, Whoopi Goldberg and dozens more.
Featured in the dance video are Rosie Perez, Kristin Chenoweth, Sean Hayes, Eric McCormick, Debra Messing, Vanessa Williams, Christina Hendricks, Nia Vardalos, Tea Leoni, Bebe Neuwirth, Tim Daly, Tituss Burgess, Chita Rivera, Ben Vereen, Tony Yazbeck, Liz Callaway, Charles Busch, Roz Ryan, Orfeh, Norm Lewis, Kevin Chamberlin, Christine Pedi, Lilla Crawford, Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford, Anika Larsen, Marissa Jaret Winokur, BD Wong, Max Von Essen, Max Crumm, Janet Metz, Carole Demas, Camryn Manheim, Liz Larsen, Frankie Grande and more.
Created to honor the victims and those wounded in the Orlando shooting massacre at Pulse nightclub and aid the surrounding community, 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the song (and the remixes) will benefit the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida.
