Music Video Watch Broadway’s Billy Porter Sing His Original Song ‘Love the Pain Away’ The Golden Globe nominee and Kinky Boots Tony winner records a tune he wrote back in 1999.

Though Billy Porter has taken a break from the stage to star on FX series Pose, he returned to his musical roots when he dropped a recording of his original tune “Love the Pain Away” January 7.

Porter wrote the song back in 1999 after the Columbine school shooting and recently rediscovered it. He recorded the original chart as part of producer Michael Korte’s One Take series. The video, filmed by Baxter Stapleton and mixed by Bryson Camper, features Porter as well as vocalists Lencia Kebede, India Carney, and Eric Lyn.

Porter recently received his first Golden Globe nomination for his performance as Pray Tell on Pose. He also appeared in American Horror Story: Apocalypse as Behold Chablis.

The actor most recently starred on Broadway in his return to the role of Lola in Kinky Boots, the role that won him his Tony Award. Prior to that he originated the role of Aubrey Lyles in Shuffle Along in 2016. His other Broadway credits include Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Grease, Five Guys Named Moe, and Miss Saigon.
