Tony Awards Watch Cynthia Erivo Perform ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ During 2019 Tony Awards In Memoriam The Color Purple Tony Award winner performed the anthem from The Lion King during the ceremony June 9.

The Color Purple Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo made a guest appearance at the 2019 Tony Awards June 9, performing the Elton John–Tim Rice song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King (as a remake of the Disney film heads to theatres) during this year’s In Memoriam segment.

The late Carol Channing, Georgia Engel, and 2019 Tony honoree Marin Mazzie were among those commemorated.

After starring in The Color Purple, marking her Broadway debut, Erivo went on to appear on the big screen in Widows and Bad Times at the El Royale. She will soon lead the Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet.
