On March 12, Joshua Harmon’s new play Admissions opened at Lincoln Center Theater’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Off-Broadway.

Starring Jessica Hecht, Andrew Garman, Ben Edelman, Ann McDonough, and Sally Murphy, the show tackles issues of affirmative action, white privilege, and the striving for diversity in America’s elite educational institutions.

Hecht plays Sherri, the Dean of Admissions at an elite prep school in New Hampshire. Her husband Bill, played by Garman, is the Headmaster, and their son Charlie a student. As leaders of the school, their life’s work has been toward increasing the racial diversity of the institution, but when Charlie receives a deferral from Yale, personal goals clash with professional ideals exploding in a controversy that strikes a nerve today.

Harmon is the writer of Bad Jews, one of the most produced plays in the nation that has also received international productions. He is an associate artist at Roundabout Theatre Company and under commission at Manhattan Theatre Club. His Significant Other, directed by Trip Cullman, played Broadway’s Booth Theatre in 2017.
