As performances of Kirsten Childs’ The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin kick off at New York City Center, Playbill joined the young and talented cast of Really Rosie in the rehearsal room for a sneak peek at that upcoming revival. See School of Rock star Taylor Caldwell perform a musical number from the Maurice Sendak and Carole King musical in the video above.

The family-friendly musical, directed by Leigh Silverman, will play August 2–5 at New York City Center. The production will be the third and final show of the Encores! Off-Center season.

Really Rosie follows a group of Brooklyn kids on a typical summer’s day. To pass the time, Rosie, the self-proclaimed sassiest kid on her block, decides to direct a movie based on the story of her life.

Caldwell plays Rosie, and is joined onstage by Swayam Bhatia, Kenneth Cabral (Runaways), Ayodele Casel (Off-Center Jamboree, Fall for Dance), Jaiya Chetram, Eduardo Hernandez (On Your Feet!), Nanyellin Liriano, Chris Lopes, Zell Steele Morrow (Fun Home), Charlie Pollock (The Wild Party), Ruth Righi (School of Rock), Anthony Rosenthal (Falsettos), and Nicole Wildy.
