PlayBlog Watch the Students of McKinley High Take on West Side Story on "Glee" (Video) In the third season of Fox's hit series "Glee," the New Directions are taking their talents in a "new direction." This year, the students at McKinley are preparing to take on the school musical, which happens to be West Side Story, the American classic that features a script by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

In the process of putting together the musical at McKinley High School, auditions have started; in the last "Glee" episode, Darren Criss, who plays Blaine Anderson, sang Tony's first solo song in West Side, "Something's Coming." Also, Lea Michele, who plays Rachel Berry, and Idina Menzel, who plays her biological mother, teamed up for a duet of "Somewhere."

Here, the cast of "Glee" talks about taking on the iconic musical. Matthew Morrison, who plays glee club director Will Schuester, admits that he wishes he were a student so he could partake in the West Side fun. Also, Chris Colfer shares his experiences with West Side Story, and Criss talks about taking on his first solo number, without the Warblers there as his backup singers.
