In the above trailer for HBO’s Notes From the Field, Tony nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Anna Deavere Smith brings a range of people to life as she explores the effects of the school-to-prison pipeline.
The film, premiering February 24, is adapted from Smith’s acclaimed solo show, which played Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater in 2016 following engagements at American Repertory Theater and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
Notes From the Field draws from hundreds of interviews Smith had conducted with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Her additional documentary-style performance pieces include Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 and Fires in the Mirror.
