News Watch Trailer for NBC's "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors," About Early Life of 9 to 5 Composer A trailer has been released for the holiday film "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors," which will be broadcast on NBC Dec. 10 beginning at 8 PM ET.

The two-hour film, which is set in Tennessee's Great Smokey Mountains in 1955, is "based on the inspiring true story of living legend Dolly Parton’s remarkable upbringing," according to NBC. "This once-in-a-lifetime movie special takes place inside the tight-knit Parton family as they struggle to overcome devastating tragedy and discover the healing power of love, faith, and a raggedy patchwork coat that helped make Parton who she is today."

The cast includes Jennifer Nettles as Parton’s mother, Avie Lee Parton; Gerald McRaney as Grandpa Jake Owens; Ricky Schroder as Dolly’s father, Lee Parton; and Alyvia Alyn as nine-year-old Dolly Parton.

"Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors" is written by Pamela K. Long. She executive produces with Sam Haskell and Dolly Parton. The film is a production of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and DP Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Best known as a country music singer-songwriter, Parton composed the score for the Broadway musical 9 to 5, based on the acclaimed film of the same name.
