A site-specific run of the classic Meredith Willson musical The Music Man, presented by Talk Is Free Theatre, begins September 14 in Barrie, Ontario.
A trailer for the production, co-starring Michael Torontow as Harold Hill and Alana Hibbert as Marian, can be seen above.
Based on a staging concept by Arkady Spivak, the musical is directed by Herbie Barnes and Jennifer Stewart. Performances, which begin at the Barrie Bus Terminal 24, continue through October 2.
The unique staging, according to the theatre company, is described as such: “This roving, immersive show follows leading man, con artist Professor Harold Hill, on his hustle throughout Barrie. Audiences will be whisked from one city site to another to witness the whimsical tale amongst unsuspecting local residents. The cast of more than 60, including barbershop quartet and full brass band, will regale with rousing marches and heartwarming ballads, such as ’Seventy-Six Trombones,’ ’Shipoopi,’ and ’Till There Was You.’ See theatre history in the making with one of the largest-ever outdoor productions in Canada!”
