The New York-based Waterwell's latest production officially opens June 11 and will run through June 28.
Created by the members of Waterwell and directed by Tom Ridgely, the production features choreography by Monica Bill Barnes. The cast comprises Hanna Cheek (Marco Millions), Matt Dellapina (of The Civilians), David Ryan Smith (Passing Strange) and Kevin Townley (Shockheaded Peter).
According to press notes, "Brilliant innovations allow people to give and get information, share opinions and express feelings in ways that were unimaginable six years ago. In some ways this is great progress. In other ways it is massive regression. #9 explores these web 2.0 technologies and how they transform identities and relationships. Music, movement and text combine to convey the experiences of four friends in a strange, bewildering world of cyber-immersion."
Designing the production are Nick Benacerraf (set design), Stacey Boggs (lighting design), Elizabeth Payne (costume design) and Alex Koch (video design). Composer Lauren Cregor and musician Gilad Ben-Zvi perform live music as part of the production.
Founded in 2002, Waterwell is a group of artists dedicated to new forms of collaborative theatre. The company has been nominated for three New York Innovative Theatre Awards, a Drama Desk and a New York Magazine Culture Award. 59E59 Theaters' Americas Off-Broadway festival offers New York theatregoers the chance to catch critically acclaimed regional productions in their own back yard.
