Entitled “CBS 2 at the Tonys,” the half-hour program will air on WCBS-TV, 8:30-9:00 AM ET. WCBS-TV airs in the tri-state area; check local listings. Hosted by CBS 2’s entertainment reporter Robyn Carter and entertainment/features reporter Katie McGee, the Tony special will focus on the shows and stars nominated for 2003 Tony Awards. A spokesperson for the television program said the two women will offer their picks and predictions of who and what will win the coveted Tony Awards. The special will also focus on the especially tight race between Best Leading Actor in a Musical nominees, Hairspray’s Harvey Fierstein and Nine’s Antonio Banderas.
Carter and McGee will also present a behind-the-scenes look at the hit Billy Joel/Twyla Tharp musical Movin’ Out, which has been nominated for ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Other segments of “CBS 2 at the Tonys” include a look at what’s in the gift bag distributed at the annual Tony Gala as well as a “Tony Memories” segment, featuring interviews with past Tony winners. That segment will include brief chats with Tony winners Hal Prince, Rita Moreno and others.
The 57th Annual Tony Awards airs on CBS-TV, 8-11 PM June 8. Stage and screen star Hugh Jackman — who will bow on Broadway in the fall in The Boy From Oz — will host.
