The tour will officially open Oct. 6 at the Fisher; West Side Story's co-creator Jerome Robbins tested his Fiddler on the Roof at the Fisher in the early '60s prior to Broadway.
Harris was a recent understudy in Broadway's Sondheim on Sondheim. Ewoldt played Cosette in the recent Broadway revival of Les Miserables. The cast also includes Michelle Aravena as Anita, Joseph J. Simeone as Riff and German Santiago as Bernardo. Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents' Broadway direction will be recreated for the tour by David Saint, the associate director on Broadway. The original Jerome Robbins choreography is reproduced by Tony Award-nominee Joey McKneely (The Boy from Oz, The Life).
West Side Story features scenic designs by James Youmans, costumes by Tony Award nominee David C. Woolard, lighting by Tony Award winner Howell Binkley, sound design by Tony Award nominee Dan Moses Schreier and hair by Mark Adam Rampmeyer.
West Side Story, inspired by Romeo and Juliet, is written by two-time Tony Award winner Arthur Laurents (book) and multiple Tony and Grammy Award winners Leonard Bernstein (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) in his Broadway debut. It tells the story of rival gangs in New York City, and two star-crossed lovers who emerge.
