The performance at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre was bought out by Tony Award-winning producer (and mother of two Wesleyan alumni) Carole Shorenstein Hays. Attendees will include Wesleyan alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends. Through sales of 1,275 tickets, plus additional sponsorships, Wesleyan raised $1.5 million, most of which will go toward establishing the four Hamilton Scholarships. Recipients (to be announced shortly) will be invited to attend the Oct. 2 performance.
A post-show party is planned at the Edison Ballroom for audience members with composer/lyricist/librettist Miranda (Class of '02) and director Thomas Kail ('99) and other members of the cast.
Also being honored at the event is Gilbert Parker (’48), Wesleyan’s first theatre major and a talent agent at William Morris who has mentored Miranda, Kail and many other aspiring theatre professionals. Part of the event’s proceeds will enlarge the existing Gilbert Parker ’48 Wesleyan Scholarship.
