News West End's Sister Act to Vacate London Palladium Oct. 30; Future Plans Announced Sister Act, the stage musical version of the 1992 film, will vacate the London Palladium Oct. 30, but producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment have announced that plans are underway to find a replacement home for the show in London; also announced is a U.K. national touring production for fall 2011.

In addition, there are plans for an international roll-out, including a Broadway bow in spring 2011, and other productions across Europe and the Far East. A German production will open in Hamburg in December 2010, to be followed by the Broadway opening, then further productions planned for Vienna, Amsterdam, Korea, Japan, Spain, Italy and France. According to a press statement, the production at the London Palladium – which opened June 2009 – will finish there, as previously agreed with Really Useful Theatres, in order to make way for Really Useful's new stage production of The Wizard of Oz, for which a Dorothy is currently being sought by a primetime reality TV casting show on BBC1.

During its run at the London Palladium it will have played for over 600 performances to audiences of almost 1 million people. In a press statement, Bill Taylor, CEO of Stage Entertainment UK and USA, has commented, "Forgive the pun but we’ve had a truly heavenly time at the Palladium! It was always the deal with the Really Useful Group that we would leave to make way for The Wizard of Oz and I want to thank every single person who has been involved in making Sister Act such a success there. It has given us the perfect springboard for launching this uplifting show around the world, establishing Sister Act as a wonderful new musical title with global potential. We’re all very excited about the next few years and the prospect of the show running in different cities, from our new London home, to Broadway and Hamburg and beyond. It’s going to be a busy few years for Deloris Van Cartier and her sisters!"
