News "West Side Story" and "Funny Girl" Will Be Screened at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre New York City's famed movie house Ziegfeld Theatre will present a special one-week-only engagement of the musicals "West Side Story" and "Funny Girl" Feb. 12-18.

The Clearview Cinema venue will show the film versions of the popular musicals — billed as "the greatest love stories of all time" — in a number of screenings. (No shows Feb. 17.) "West Side Story" was adapted for the screen in 1961 by Ernest Lehman. The film version of the musical by Leonard Bernstein (music), Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) and Arthur Laurents (book) featured Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, George Chakiris and Rita Moreno. Original stage director Jerome Robbins directed the film with Robert Wise.

In 1968, "Funny Girl" — based on the original Broadway musical by Jule Styne (music), Bob Merrill (lyrics) and Isobel Lennart (book) — made the leap to the big screen. Original stage star Barbra Streisand repeated her leading role as Fanny Brice with Omar Sharif and Nick Arnstein.
