Westfeldt (Wonderful Town, "Kissing Jessica Stein") will appear as series regular Meredith Reed, a journalist with ties to a Middle East leader who in the U.S. on a peacemaking mission, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The new season of the series launches in January 2010. It was also announced that John Boyd, who appeared Off-Broadway in Piano Teacher, has also been signed as a Counter Terrorist Unit systems analyst on the series.

Each episode in the "real-time" series documents an hour in the life of CTU agent Jack Bauer, portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland. Real Time productions and Imagine Television produce the show in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Brian Grazer, Surnow, Cochran, Gordon and Evan Katz are the executive producers. Kiefer Sutherland is a co-executive producer.
