The long-standing row about the future of the Westminster Theatre was decided this week when Westminster Council, the local authority, gave the go-ahead for the building's demolition.
The Save London's Theatres Campaign members were reported to be very upset by the news, but on the positive side the developers of the site have agreed to create a smaller theatre within the new development.
This new theatre is earmarked for the Talawa theatre company, so there will be a continuity of performance on the site, but the fact that a central London theatre can be demolished remains a cause for great concern, especially in light of the continuing row about the proposed demolition of the existing Mermaid Theatre in the City of London.
