News What Rhymes With Corn Nuts? Heathers Musical Will Receive New York Concert The new musical adaptation of the 1988 dark comedy "Heathers," penned by Legally Blonde composer Laurence O'Keefe, Andy Fickman and Kevin Murphy, will receive a New York concert staging this September.

Previous reports had Heathers set to make a regional stage debut in 2010, but O'Keefe told Playbill.com that the timeline has changed on the project. However, a New York concert will introduce audiences to the clique of domineering high school girls who will sing of drain cleanser, corn nuts and suicide notes.

O'Keefe described the event as "a sort of a reading and a fun festive debut for the show — it's going to be a concert..."

Earlier readings of Heathers featured "Reefer Madness" stars Kristen Bell as Veronica and Christian Campbell as J.D., as well as Jenna Leigh Green (Wicked), Corri English and Christine Lakin as the Heathers.

O'Keefe could not confirm casting for the September presentation of Heathers, but said, "It's going to big and fun and festive, [full of] surprises [and] special guests."

For Heathers, O'Keefe has teamed with Reefer Madness collaborators Murphy to pen book music and lyrics, and director Fickman, who is aiding in the development of the property. The film of "Heathers" featured Wynona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk and Kim Walker.
