After some of Broadway’s top musical artists appeared on NBC’s June 21 evening telecast of the Maya & Marty variety show to perform “What the World Needs Now Is Love”—an updated version of the classic Burt Bacharach/Hal David song that is helping to support the devastated LGBT community of Orlando, FL, where a gunman murdered 49 people at the Pulse nightclub and injured 53 more—the song hit the top spot as the most downloaded song on iTunes.

It has remained at number one or two on iTunes all morning June 22.

Seth Rudetsky, who helped organize the recording of the uplifting tune, posted the news on Twitter.
