See Whoopi through July 13 only!" That's the banner across the current New York Times ad for A Funny Thing Happened In The Way To The Forum. Whoopi Goldberg had been scheduled to play Pseudolus in the Broadway revival through June 29 but has extended through July 13.
According to production spokesperson Jackie Green, the show will continue on after Whoopi's departure, but no replacement has been announced. Asked about a New York Post (June 5) item saying that two male contenders for the role are David Alan Grier (TV's "In Living Color") and Chris Elliot (filmdom's Cabin Boy; the "Guy" guy on Late Nite With David Letterman), Green said, "as soon as we can announce something, we will."
Among those who will see Goldberg's final performances will be members of the Democratic National Committee, which bought out the entire June 30 performance.
