In a statement on her website, Menzel writes, "I am opening a performing arts camp (with my husband Taye Diggs and some of our closest friends), for young girls from underserved communities. It's called Camp BroaderWay! This Summer, August 2011, we will collaborate with a special group of girls to create a completely original piece of theater to be performed on a New York City stage. We are still connecting all the dots, but I am proud to say that Jeanine Tesori, composer extraordinaire, will be up at camp with us, guiding the girls and structuring a piece around them. My fans are the most generous and kind in spirit so I couldn't wait to tell all of you about this new endeavor."

Camp BroaderWay's focus, according to its website, is "self-expression, empowerment, leadership development and traditional camp fun. Camp BroaderWay will provide a positive nurturing environment for young girls to make new friends, explore new interests and appreciate nature. The summer program will culminate with an original camper-created performance on a New York City stage attended by family, friends and supporters."

This year, Camp BroaderWay takes place at Belvoir Terrace in Lenox, MA. Belvoir Terrace is a well-established performing arts camp with state-of-the art facilities.

Attendees will be exposed to acting, singing, dance, studio art, music, film and creative writing workshops. Composer Jeanine Tesori will be the creative director for summer 2011.
