Carmen, which features music by Wildhorn, lyrics by Jack Murphy and a book by Norman Allen, will begin performances Oct. 2 at the Karlin Theater. Gabriel Barre directs. Czech actress Lucie Bilá will star in the title role. The work is described as "a contemporary tale inspired by the Prosper Mérimée novel, which contains the essence of the famous characters but explores the story in a brand new way."

Andrea Bartha designed sets and costumes.

A workshop of Carmen was held in Manhattan in March featuring Jenny Powers as Carmen, Brandi Burkhardt as Katarina, Rita Gardner as Aunt Inez, Ryan Silverman as Jose, Thom Sesma as Garcia and Nick Wyman as Mayor.
