Love Letters follows the lifelong friendship between the artist Melissa and the politician Andrew. Their story is told through a series of letters, notes and cards exchanged over 50 years.
Love Letters had an Off-Broadway run in 1989, followed by a move to Broadway. A rotating cast played Melissa and Andrew, including John Rubinstein and Stockard Channing, Jason Robards and Colleen Dewhurst, and Elaine Stritch and Cliff Robertson.
The Times reports that the play hinges mostly on the casting, with one possibility being Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston ("Prizzi's Honor," "Smash").
