Will Brad Pitt Film "Fight Club" Be Transformed Into a Rock Opera? | Playbill

News Will Brad Pitt Film "Fight Club" Be Transformed Into a Rock Opera? A musical version of the 1999 film "Fight Club," which starred Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, is currently under discussion, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Chuck Palahniuk, whose novel was the basis for Jim Uhls' screenplay, has spoken with director David Fincher about a rock opera of the property. Fincher directed the film as well as the recent "Gone Girl." Palahniuk, who has consulted with Tony winner Julie Taymor, said that Trent Reznor, the Nine Inch Nails frontman, will write the score.

Although the rock opera is in "embryonic development," Palahniuk said, "[Director] Fincher is so dedicated to producing 'Fight Club' as a rock opera now…David says that every generation has had a rock opera since 'Tommy' and 'The Wall,' and Millennials just haven't had a rock opera. With David’s background with music videos and with Trent Reznor doing the music, I don't think anyone could do it like David."

The film about an underground fight club also featured Helena Bonham Carter.
