News Will Musical Satire Smoking Bloomberg Have an Animated Future? Smoking Bloomberg, the topical musical comedy about New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ban on smoking tobacco in public places, is being developed as an animated project.

New Core Prods. and Silver Lining Film Group are seeking investment partners for the project, based on the stage musical by David Cornue, Sam Holtzapple, Warren Loy and Chris Todd. The satire was seen in a staging in the New York Musical Theatre Festival. The musical had a recent Manhattan reading April 22 presented by Transport Group and producer Jennifer Maloney in TG's Dark Night Series.

David Wollos (The ThinkTank Emporium), who was involved with such animated projects as "Transformers," "G.I. Joe" and "My Little Pony," "will venture into the animated world of adult-humor as the project representative for media and licensing opportunities," according to the collaborators. David Hamby (Gahan Wilson's "Diner") created the initial animation demo for this concept.

Smoking Bloomberg is billed as "a hilarious new musical satire about a Korean dry cleaner who seeks her revenge on Mayor Bloomberg when his smoking ban ruins her business." The "highly irreverent show explores the loss of personal freedoms in modern-day America, targeting the Left, the Right, and everyone in between."

Smoking Bloomberg was the winner of both the NYMF Best of Fest Award and the AnyMinuteNow Next Big Musical Competition.

The writers are also seeking producing partners for an Off-Broadway or Broadway run. The score's song titles include "Fag&ot$!," "Nick Nolte," "Culture is Just a Bunch of Retarded Sh!t" and "Everybody's a Dictator."

David Cornue, of New Core Productions, stated, "During the New York stage production, we found Smoking Bloomberg had mass appeal among key audience demographics, so we're excited to give the project a wider reach beyond the four walls of a theatre."

ThinkTank's Wollos, who will be seeking strategic co-production partners in North America and Europe, stated, "Behind the crass humor is a strong and positive universal message about freedom that audiences will connect to worldwide."

Voice talent has yet to be announced.
