It was previously reported that The Hustler was being adapted for Broadway by screenwriter Anthony Tambakis ("Warrior") and would be directed by Gavin O'Connor ("Tumbleweeds," "Warrior"). Zellweger and Tambakis are also collaborating on the film "4 1/2 Minutes," which the actress directs and stars in.

According to the Daily Mail, Zellweger would play Fast Eddie Felson's girlfriend, portrayed by Piper Laurie in the 1961 film. No other details about the West End or Broadway-aimed productions were revealed.

"The Hustler," which centers on an ambitious pool shark and the doomed woman who loves him, was adapted into a 1961 film starring Paul Newman and Laurie.

Zellweger, who is also planning on a third "Bridget Jones" film, is currently in production on "4 1/2." The actress earned an Oscar for "Cold Mountain." She was Academy Award-nominated for playing Roxie Hart in "Chicago" and for her work in "Bridget Jones' Diary."
