"Maybe!" said Fey on the red carpet of the Jan. 27 Screen Actors Guild Awards when asked if a "Mean Girls" musical was in the works. "I would love to, yeah. I'm trying to develop it, actually, with my husband, who does all the music for '30 Rock,' and I think Paramount's on board."

Fey had previously talked about the possibility of Mean Girls the musical. In 2007, the actress and writer told MTV, "I thought the movie, in some ways, mostly appealed to young girls and gay men, and I feel like that could be a recipe for success on Broadway."

On the recent "Mean Girls" discussion seen on the Fox reality series "American Idol," Fey said, "Maybe [Mariah Carey] can play Amy Poehler's part in the musical."

"Mean Girls" was directed by Mark Waters and also starred Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried and Fey.

The film centers on Cady Heron (Lohan), who returns to the U.S. from Africa and must adjust to high school life after previously being homeschooled. She soon must decide which social clique to be a part of and finds herself caught in the drama of "The Plastics."
